Need Research Help?
As much as we would like to help with your questions about the identification and values of your antiques and collectibles, we do not offer these services for two reasons: 1) we simply do not have time to respond to all the inquiries we receive, and 2) we are not certified appraisers. However, we are happy to point you in the direction of people and/or sites that offer these services. We do not necessarily endorse these entities, but are providing this information as a courtesy to our customers. Please use your best judgment and check references before sending money to anyone for an appraisal.
Doing Your Own Homework
Not sure what you have? The best place to start your research is at your local bookstore. There are literally thousands of books on antiques and collectibles -- general information, how to care for your items, valuation guides, help on how to sell your stuff, and specific books on each and every collecting category you can think of. Most bookstores do not stock all the collecting reference books that are out there, so we suggest you start online. Take a look at our Recommended Books.
Expert Appraisers
Many seasoned antiques dealers will offer their "expert" hands-on knowledge and experience to help you.... some for a fee, and some at no cost. There are also websites that cater specifically to providing identification help and values for your antiques and collectibles. Here are just a few of them:

Certified Appraisers
If you think your item is worth over $100, it would be well worth the money spent to get an appraisal from a certified appraiser. This is especially true if you need to insure your valuable antique or collectible. The best resource for this service is the International Society of Appraisers. Use their searchable database to find an appraiser in your area.
