Unusual Vintage Polynesian Theme Butter Knife ~ We acquired this interesting piece in a estate boxlot of silver and tableware. It looks like it was hand crafted, and there are no maker's marks of any kind. The knife is 6.25" long and features a man in some sort of draped clothing from the waist down, standing with one arm outstretched, and the other holding what appears to be a staff. If it were not for the flowers and shell design on the handle, I would think that he could be Roman, because of his toga style flowing robes. The design continues down the length of the knife on the front, but the back of the blade itself is smooth. I 'm guessing from the overall look of the item, it might have been a souvenir brought back from a trip to Hawaii or the Polynesian Islands some time ago. There is some residue in the creases that looks like silver polish, so it's possible it was silver plated. An interesting item of unknown origin and age for your collection! |

Beautiful Sterling Silver Intaglio Lady Hinged Pillbox ~ This lovely item is quite small, but very detailed for its size. It measures approximately 1" in diameter and 3/8" high. It has a raised intaglio design (a "reverse cameo", if you will) of a lady's head in profile, with flowers in her hair and near her nose. I believe she might be an native American Indian, as she also appears to have a headband across her forehead and flowing hair. Other than some bottom scratches from where it sits on the table, it shows little wear. The hinge is in excellent condition, and the inside is flawless and very clean. The bottom inside of the pillbox has a 925 sterling silver mark. I have no idea of its maker or age. To see the larger image, click the picture. Old Brass Turtle Shaped Hinged Box ~ Very cute turtle measuring about 1.5" high, 4.25" long from head to tail, and 2.25" wide. His shell is hinged on one side, revealing an oval shaped area. There is significant patina, which leads me to believe this might be used as an ashtray. I believe this would be considered a Box Turtle, or maybe a tortoise from the ornate design on his shell. The bottom has an impressed mark that looks like an N inside a circle. A vintage item from an estate, but the exact maker and age are not known. I have been advised by a customer owns this exact item that his was obtained in Florida by a family member on vacation circa the 1920's. |

Antique 24 Karat Gold Plated Demitasse Tea Spoons ~ I acquired these from an estate a couple years ago, along with several other nice flatware pieces. These demitasse spoons measure approximately 4.5" long. The back of all 8 are marked "24 Karat Gold Plate". The pattern is a dainty leaf around the handle, with a tiny flower near where the handle and bowl meet. I decided to leave them "as is" .... the new buyer clean them up as desired. All are in excellent shape and the plate appears to be in good condition. There are a couple of dark tarnish spots on a couple spoons -- I believe they would clean off with the proper polish. |

Older Shell Shaped Metal Serving Dish w/ Four Dolphin Feet ~ Very interesting shell shaped dish approximately 10" in diameter and standing 2" high, which sits on four fish or dolphin shaped figures. It's a fairly heavy base metal of some sort, that probably was silver plated at one time. It's not marked, so I have no idea who made it or the age. There is extensive discoloration, but it turned into a great patina that I decided to leave alone. I believe the part that looks like a candle holder (on the top) may be to insert another smaller dish to sit above this one, but I don't have it.
